12/28/92 Palace Theater, New Haven, CT The second set of this show is **HOT** and highly recommended, fwiw. Split,
Reba, Sloth, Bike, Harry! Opening segment is standard. The pre-Nirvana build is just gorgeous, though. Trey and Page kinda
play a little bit with a melody I haven't heard them screw around before. Definite "Vibration of Life" attempt in here. WOW!!
Page plays some astoundingly gorgeous piano in here, folks. Certainly one of the prettiest pre-Nirvana *JAMS* I've ever
heard. Beautiful. "Nirvana" doesn't occur until 3:46!! =^] What a build!! A typically pleasing Nirvana section. Mike's solo
section is very slow and dull.. not its scary self at all. Trey's shots at The Notes are not that strong, imo. Kinda a sluggish
pre-charge segment all around. A little below average for sure.. "Boy" at 7:14 after a pained scream from Trey. Trey plays a
little melodious lick before the final WUDMTF chanting, which is kinda cool... he teases it again later, too. This might be a tease
of something, but I don't recognize the tune at all. Tramps segment at 9:23, and Mike's signals reveal the tramps moves... Page's
jamming is typically great. Nothing profound, though. Jam segment at 10:52. Trey begins repeating a short little Santana-esque
lick over, and over, and over again, before taking off around 11:28.. well, he takes that little lick elsewhere. A very steadily
building, melodious jam. Kinda dull, though, still around 12:14, when Page teases Oye Como Va on the piano briefly. Around
12:30, Trey is soloing repetitively again, but the licks are tight and pleasant. He's still in the mid-range of the 'doc, though..
Trey's soloing around 14 is quite good.. must be the closing minute of the jam segment. Typically fantasic accompaniment from
Fish Mike and Page.. typically great close, but nothing profound. B&D at 14:38. Mike is melodiously funking all over his 'doc in
here.. lotsa bass tom work from Fish, too. =^] Niiiiice grooving from Mike. Final WUDMTF segment at 15:44. Vocal jam
kicks in at 16 mins or so. I heard "Xanadu" in here a few times from Trey... repeats it several times, actually. "Awwww
Xanadu." A great vocal jam, but not one of my favorites (it has a lot less silliness and a lot more singing and harmonizing). No
small furry creatures in here at all, in other words... the last minute or so is very repetitive and dull, outside of Fish, who sounds
like he might be talking fast nonsense (but he isn't mic'ed well). Total time 20:57 (and Lizards segues out of the very end).
C+/B- rating. I thought the Nirvana segment was incredible (just a beautiful segment, well above the norm), but the rest of this
YEM was pretty standard.
