5/13/94 Hayden Square, ASU, Tempe, AZ I was thinking about going to this show. A friend of mine graduated from ASU at
this time.. oh well. :( Missed an excellent show! There are some very phaaat dauds of this show out there, too (FOBs!).
Opening fine.. there's some whistling in the pre-Nirvana segment (see 12/29/94 Bowie and many other places in 1994.. MANY
other places). Very Lassie-esque whistling. Otherwise a typically beautiful pre-Nirvana section.. Nirvana comes around 3:19 or
so. I was distracted by the "hey dude" that an aud member said (near the FOB mics).. sssshhh'ed. Mike's solo-section is rather
Curious.. he's more active than usual. It isn't dark and depressing, but rather quizzical and intriguing. The pre-charge section is
typically good. Trey jams very well around the first shot at The Note, fwiw. Second shot at the Note at 6:03 is sustained quite
well. "Boy" at 6:35 after a good scream. Sounds like Trey says "M'am" instead of Man... WUDMTF segment typically funky,
with some nice piano fills from Page. Good tramps segment groovin' from Page, with great accompaniment from the others,
too!! Especially Fish.. Page teases Mission Impossible around 10:35 or so... and again 20 seconds later. At 10:58 Trey breaks
out soloing.. no climax to the tramps jam unfortunately. Jam gets quiet fairly quickly.. Trey starts noodling a lot (and Page
actually noodles in accompaniment a little here and there, too). Very quiet around 11:50, with everyone jamming extremely
minimally.. Trey is melodiously 'doc picking, though.. Around 12:30 or so, Trey starts a theme that is somewhat reminiscent of
Mind Left Body.. in fact, it is almost definitely Mind Left Body around 12:45 or so. Just not as profound as 6/18/94-2. Still
what I'd call a tease of the MLB theme. Not a jam as on 6/18/94. Trey starts going crazy, and all the band members Step Up..
fantastic YEM jamming around 13:45 with quite a Santana-esque flavor! (imagine that) Trey sustains out the closing of the jam
segment. And at 14:08 it is bass and drums.. starts off slowly, with Mike melodiously noodling, and practically teasing "Music
Never Stopped" at one point (wrong key; 14:23; not much of a tease, though). He finally starts getting down around 14:50.
Around 15:10, it sounds like he teases something I should recognize.. but I can't name. :( Closing WUDMTF segment starts at
15:15. Vocal jamming ensues.. typically weird but well-performed vocal jam. Around 17:25 they seem to be chanting "Why,"
but this doesn't last very long.. some Monkey noises from Trey. Quite the Jungle vocal jam, frankly. ;-) I know I can't review
these damn things for shit. Nevertheless, this is definitely an "above-average" vocal jam imo.. gets especially crazy around 19
minutes.. sounds angry. Total time 19:30. I really enjoyed this YEM.. awesome jam segment. B rating. two cents charlie
